Server upgrade pt.1

So have decided I need to upgrade my main Linux box running Fecorda Core 5 with all of my media on it so I can run fuppies or ushare or something similar.  I chatted with my brothers the other day and one pointed out the there must be some method for doing it via yum. I got Google working on it and found this..http://www.ioncannon.net/system-administration/99/upgrade-fc5-to-fc6-with-yum/ and I figured I would work up to Fedora10.

First I had to find a repo that had pacages available for FC6 but that was not hard, thanks to fedoraproject.org. It started out easy enough, I upgraded the release package via RPM. Then I started the big yum -y update, and the problems started. For some reason the download locked up, HARD.  I rebooted and tried again; No joy. It seemed to take too long so I started installing things by hard. WRONG move.

Google to the rescue again. I tried to get it working again via the following:

rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*
rpm -vv --rebuilddb
yum
yum clean all

It was still taking too long so I became frustrated and kept trying all sorts of stuff. Turns all I needed was a nap. Started it again and went to take a nap. When I checked on it again (about an hour later) it was churning along upgrading things. So now its at Fedora Core 6. Next up trying to go to FC 7.
